Summer Reading Program Begins June 27

Chester readers of all ages are invited to participate in Chester Library’s 2019 Summer Reading Program.   The program is offered to encourage residents to read for pleasure and to help children maintain their reading skills during the summer months.  It combines reading incentives with related events and activities for children, teens and adults.

This year’s Summer Reading Program theme is “A Universe of Stories”.   Children can start signing up on Thursday, June 27th for the incentive program which offers weekly prizes for reading.   Children and their parents can also enjoy numerous events scheduled throughout the summer including a reptile show, musical performance, telescope night, princess party, ocean life program, and much more.

The library will also have a special reading program for middle and high school readers.  There will be drawings for prizes as well as special events like a teen cooking challenge, scavenger hunt, magic workshop, and craft program. Students can stop by the Teen Room for more details.

The Adult Summer Reading Program also begins on June 27th.  It continues through August 31st and includes prizes and book suggestions.

“Research has shown that students who participate in library summer reading programs significantly improve their reading skills and are more prepared to begin school in the fall ready to learn and succeed,” said Lesley Karczewski, Director. “Our goal is to keep children, teens and adults engaged with the library throughout the summer by offering incentives and fun events related to reading.”
