Chester Library Summer Reading Program is Here!

Chester readers of all ages are invited to participate in Chester Library’s 2018 Summer Reading Program.   This free program is offered to encourage residents to read for pleasure and to help children maintain their reading skills during the summer months.  It combines reading incentives with related events and activities for children, teens and adults.

This year’s Summer Reading Program theme is “Libraries Rock!”.  Children can  sign up at the front desk for the incentive program which offers weekly prizes for reading.  The launch was celebrated with a Petting Zoo on June 27th.  Children and their parents can enjoy numerous events scheduled throughout the summer including a reptile show, dinosaur program, Star Wars day, magic show, Scienceteller program, and more.

The library will also have a special reading program for middle and high school readers.  There will be drawings for prizes including free laser tag passes and Somerset Patriots baseball tickets as well as special events like a teen cooking challenge, tie-dye program, teen escape room and community service project.  Students can stop by the Teen Room for more details.

The Adult Summer Reading Program also begins on June 27th.  It continues through August 31st and includes weekly prizes and book suggestions.

“Research has shown that students who participate in library summer reading programs significantly improve their reading skills and are more prepared to begin school in the fall ready to learn and succeed,” said Lesley Karczewski, Director. “Our goal is to keep children, teens and adults engaged with the library throughout the summer by offering incentives and fun events related to reading.”
